Microsoft Office 2021: A Digital-First Document As A New Online Identity Tool
Worldwide, 20% of people aged 15-24 don't use any sort of modern identification system
Loyalty may lie with the social media age that's dominated by Facebook and Snapchat, but when it comes to how they use mobile devices, millennials are also putting privacy first. According to a new report from the Pew Research Center, more than half of them don't want to share any personal information on social networks like Facebook and Twitter, even when it comes to accessing apps and websites. A majority of 18- to 29-year-olds say they wouldn't want their credit card information posted on their feeds, and nearly two-thirds say they wouldn't want to share their digital assistant app preferences on their timelines.
As millennials and many others increasingly gain access to mobile devices and online, and use their information for everything from shopping and socializing to managing their health and wellness, Microsoft has launched Office 2021, a major revamp of Microsoft's venerable Office suite of applications that addresses their issues with device control and privacy.
"It's about making digital experiences work for people and understanding the world around them to present them with simple and secure experiences," says Abby Kearns, head of U.S. marketing for Office 365.
There's an emphasis on mobile-first design that blends touch and other controls on an interface to keep devices in mind. The shift puts the emphasis on people over devices, with a focus on real-time responses and personalization. As the screens evolve with interactive capabilities, we can anticipate how personal information should be used.

"We'll use Office 365 as an underlying operating system," says Kearns. The digital-first approach will be delivered across devices to keep documents, settings, and other preferences and options within easy reach and viewable at any time and from any device. For example, users can log in via a new integrated Microsoft account on one PC or mobile device, while still keeping work settings separate on another. There are also deep customization options to allow users to easily pick and choose from a wider range of document, feature, and icon options. Users also benefit from a shared experience for Office 365, which will mean a consistent and simplified experience across devices. For example, PDF documents can be viewed across devices, highlighting the collaborative nature of this new digital world.
